Superintendent Welcome Back

Welcome back to another incredible year at Aromas San Juan Unified School District. School begins on August 17, 2017. We are focused on our continued efforts of building a staircase to success for our students. With the extraordinary support from our collaborative partners (i.e., administrators, staff, parents, and community), anything is possible.

 

I am honored to continue serving the Board, staff, students, and the community in collaboration with all stakeholders to achieve the best outcomes for students. Together, as a partnership, we can build a bridge to success for all students.

Leading us this year at our sites and in our departments, include:

During 2016-17, we established a “Superintendent Coffee Hour” held at each school site monthly. We will continue the coffee hour in an effort to maintain a two-way communication for students, parents, and community providing an opportunity to share ideas and hear updates from the District.

 

During the summer break, the District offered the “Seamless Summer” program, which offered breakfast and lunch to students, parents, and community. In addition, we also extended our library hours at San Juan School to students, parents, and community. This afforded our students the ability to continue accessing books throughout the summer, but most importantly access to the “Accelerated Reader” program. This was a wonderful opportunity for students to read and maintain or increase proficiency. This was only possible through the gracious time volunteered by Martha Quesda, San Juan School Librarian, and Monica Martinez-Guaracha, Trustee and parent. We are so very thankful for the dedication and support of our staff, parents, and community.

 

The Local Control Accountability Plan enacted by the State of California in 2013-14 has changed every year since its inception. To ensure updates are communicated to stakeholders, the District will begin discussions of the LCAP, more specifically the goals established with stakeholders beginning in September 2017. The LCAP is supported by the funding from the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). The LCAP incorporates the District’s educational goals, which includes staff development, parent involvement and guidelines to support the District to maximize student achievement and success. We look forward to the review of the District’s LCAP in an earlier timeframe. During 2017-18, we will review two of the five LCAP Goals every other month until we have completed all goal reviews. Comments from the administrators, staff, students, parents, and community will be provided to the Board for each section reviewed. This will allow the District the opportunity to focus on the communication of the goals to ensure there is a strong understanding of the goals incorporated in the LCAP. The five goals associated with the LCAP are as follows:

 

1. Provide students with high quality classroom instruction and curriculum that promote college and career readiness and prepares students for success in the 21st Century global economy.

2. Improve student achievement by implementing district-wide and site-based professional development to effectively implement Common Core State Standards, English Language Development (ELD) Standards, district initiatives, and to respond to student achievement results in a timely manner.

3. Provide effective, researched based interventions at all levels to increase student achievement and to decrease the achievement gap for all state identified subgroups.

4. Ensure all students experience safe, well maintained, supportive, and inclusive environments so that all students are in their classes ready to learn.

5. Increase parent engagement through effective two-way communication to raise the level of involvement of parents and families in school programs, student progress, and as valued decision-making partners and school stakeholder leaders.
