EPERRs: Anzar's Habits of Mind

Habits of Mind are a way of thinking. Anzar High School graduates students who can approach any topic or subject in an insightful and perceptive manner, for the rest of their lives. In order to train this kind of thinking, the curriculum in all classes is guided by five Habits of Mind, commonly referred to as the "EPERRs."

Evidence - What do I know and how do I know it?

Perspective - What are the biases - mine and others?

Extension - What are the deeper implications?

Relevance - What difference does this make? So what?

Reflection - What did I learn?

While this kind of thinking manifests itself quite differently in different content areas, the skill of how to think is consistent and effective, based on feedback from our graduates in their college years. The EPERRs are posted in huge posters in each classroom and incorporated into assignments in all courses. The EPERRs guide the scoring process for the Graduation Exhibitions, as well.
